New Year’s (and Birthday!) Resolution

Happy 2017 to you all and Happy Birthday to me!  Another January 3rd, another year older, it seems.  This year people have tried to make a big deal about my “milestone birthday”, but quite honestly, 30 feels absolutely no different than 29 did.  I did take the whole day off from work just because I could, but there’s no special celebration planned or anything. At the moment, I’m just sitting outside at a Starbucks typing because it’s 67 degrees in January.  Welcome to the whacky weather that is Tennessee.

This year, I want to try something new – really push and stretch myself this year.  I’ve settled on the 52 Hike Challenge, specifically the Explorer Series.  To read in detail about the challenge click here, but the basic principle is that I will be striving this year to hike 52 different hikes in 2017 – an average of 1 per week.  Of course, I’ll be documenting my progress here, so I hope you cheer me on, or even join in on the fun yourself!  Here’s a few basic personal guidelines for the upcoming year:

  • I’m allowed to count trails that I’ve done in previous years, but only if I re-hike them.  However, hiking the same trail multiple times in 2017 will still only count the one time;
  • Each hike has to be a minimum of 1 mile in length, although the longer, the better;
  • Pictures, or it doesn’t count;
  • It doesn’t matter if the hikes are done solo, with a friend, or as part of a larger group;
  • Have lots of fun 🙂

If you have any questions or words of encouragement, feel free to send them my way.  Otherwise, happy trails and hopefully I’ll see you in the woods someday!
