Leaving the Narrows of the Harpeth Tract of Harpeth River State Park, I then drove a short distance to the third tract making up the state park – Gossett Tract. Despite several hours of daylight remaining, the only other hiker in sight was an older man with two monstrously-sized dogs. He and his dogs headed down the path towards the shorter Upper Loop Trail, while I headed the opposite way to the mile-long Lower Loop Trail instead.
I hate to say this about any trail, but quite frankly, I was bored. Lower Loop Trail turned out to be basically just a mowed path circling an average looking field. Really the only moment of excitement or thrill was when a turkey flew up out of the tall grass to my left and nearly scared the crap out of me! I don’t recommend this particular trail unless you live in the area and want something mind-numbing to do outside. Even then, however, there are much more stimulating trails less than 5 minutes away.
