When Mom and I made our quick stop at the Sugarland’s Visitor Center bathrooms mid-way through Gatlinburg Trail, I convinced her to take a quick side-trip down the 1-mi roundtrip Cataract Falls Trail since neither of us had done it in so many years. Normally the trail is bustling with throngs of people. However, it was after 6pm and the Visitor’s Center itself was already closed, meaning we mostly had the trail all to ourselves.
The trail is probably the easiest in the entire National Park, which is why it’s so popular, but it’s a nice little walk and it ended in a waterfall, which is small, but a waterfall, no matter the size, is never a bad idea. Basically, I wouldn’t put Cataract Falls on any kin of bucket list, but if you have very small children or someone in your group who needs flat, short, and easy, this is the perfect trail for you.
